Well what a successful night we had! March 10th saw the first professional boxing home show in Coventry for many years, with all the boys on the bill from Coventry the night was sure to pull in a big crowd and that it did!
The MTK Managed show saw professional boxers Joe Sherriff, Troy James, Michael Green, David Seymour & Luke Beasley on the bill. The sell out show was held at the Alan Higgs Centre.
Michael Green kick started the show with the first bout of the night, winning the four round opener against Stourbridge veteran Kevin McCauley.
Up next came Luke Beasley in his Pro Debut against Simas Volosinas. Luke came back strong from a right-hand counter in his first round seeing his knees buckle slightly, he soon settled in to the fight come the third round and saw victory after winning all four rounds.
David Seymour kept his composure in his four rounder against Latvia’s Dmitrijs Gutmans, the home crowd were heard fiercely cheering Dave on. Looking sharp and accurate Dave took all four rounds. Due to be fighting next month in Leicester on the Sam Bowen bill, Dave’s already back in camp focus and training hard.
The controversial fight on the fight came from Troy Jame’s bout against welshman Henry James. Troy was unhappy about the referee scoring 59-56 in Henry’s favour although it looked a close fight with Henry trying to keep his boxing scrappy and troy trying to use the ring floor in a more technical manner. The results showed Troy winning the first and last round with Henry winning everything in-between.
Topping the bill was Joe Sherriff who wanted to come back strong from his fight with Jake Ball at Yorke Hall. Even though the fight went on to take ‘Fight of the Month’ in the Boxing Monthly Magazine, Joe had a point to prove and a win was definitely in his plans. And win he did, opponent Tayar Mehmed showed little appetite for a fight seeing Joe take all six rounds in his favour.
With the night being a huge success MTK Management have already announced plans for another Coventry based home show due for May. Full details will be realised nearer the time but the show date is looking likely for May 19th with all the Red Corner Gym Boxers on the bill.
